Convicted Dutch pedophile arrested for third time in Siem Reap



A convicted Dutch pedophile is currently under investigation by Siem Reap Provincial Court for the third time in the last six years.

Sebastian Reuijl was first convicted in the Netherlands in 2004 for abusing a 12-year-old boy at a sailing school where he worked as an instructor.

He later moved to Cambodia, and in October 2011, the Siem Reap Provincial Court sentenced him to three months in prison for sexually abusing five children aged 7 to 13. Reuijl was rearrested in December 2013 on fresh charges, which were dropped the following March.

He was arrested yet again late last month, this time over child sex offences allegedly committed against a 4-year-old boy, according to provincial court spokesman Yem Srang.

Provincial chief of anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection police Doung Thavery said Reuijl had been under surveillance for some time.

“We decided to raid the room he was renting and found his habits unchanged; he was still doing that to underage boys,” Thavery said.

Inside the room, police discovered the 4-year-old alleged victim. “Sebastian and the boy’s family lived close to each other. Sebastian always enticed the boy up to his room with pizza and let him play games, then he took the opportunity to abuse the boy.”

Dutch Court Probing 2013 Child Abuse Case

Authorities in the Netherlands said they were investigating a Dutch pedophile facing child sex abuse charges in Siem Reap province in a probe that local investigators say extends to a 2013 case that was thrown out by the provincial court.

Sebastiaan Reuijl, 42, was convicted of sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy in the Netherlands in 2004 and moved to Cambodia several years later. Police and NGO investigators said he continued to abuse young children while living in Siem Reap City, but was acquitted in separate cases in 2011 and 2013.

He was arrested again in July for molesting his 4-year-old neighbor on multiple occasions, according to police. He is currently in prison awaiting trial on charges of “indecent acts” committed against the boy.

In a statement last month, the Netherlands’ National Office of the Public Prosecutor announced that Dutch police assisted Cambodian authorities during a search of Mr. Reuijl’s Siem Reap City residence that resulted in his arrest on July 30.

The statement also said Dutch officials were investigating the alleged abuse of two Cambodian boys by Mr. Reuijl between 2009 and 2013.

Dutch Child Sex Abuser Sentenced to Prison in Siem Reap

A Dutch pedophile who was twice acquitted of child sex abuse charges in Cambodia was sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of engaging in indecent acts against minors and possession of child pornography, a child protection group announced this week.

Sebastiaan Reuijl, 42, who had been found guilty of sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy in the Netherlands in 2004 and relocated to Cambodia several years later, continued to abuse young children while living in Siem Reap City, police and NGO investigators said.

He was acquitted in separate cases in 2011 and 2013, but then in August was arrested for a third time after three young victims reported abuse, according to a statement from Action Pour Les Enfants (APLE). Police said last year that he was arrested for repeatedly molesting his 4-year-old next door neighbor.

Despite all the victims withdrawing their complaints during the court proceedings, Mr. Reuijl was found guilty of all charges on Tuesday, the APLE statement said...
