A Spanish Woman Arrested In Relation to Black Monday Faces Deportation
Phnom Penh, a Western woman arrested by the police for joining the Black Monday marching with former Beoung Kok residents on 16 August 2016. She was brought for questioning at the immigration police department and was found with no valid visa. Plus, she was joining the Black Monday march causing the disorder in Cambodia, immigration police said.

Foreign woman named Marga Bucosa Segada, Spanish. She was arrested this morning around 11:00 in front of Daun Penh police satiation while she was joining the former Beoung Kok residents marching for the release of two prominent Beoung Kok activists who were arrested recently for the Black Monday Marching, Bo Sorphea and Tep Vanny.

Police said, the foreigner woman wasn't working in Cambodia. She is residing in Cambodia as a tourist. Adding that, decision for what to do next with her is decided by the minister of ministry of interior.

Police added, the foreigner woman was allowed to go back to her place, but had her passport confiscated as the police will have to call her back for further questioning.

Activists Still in Custody; Foreigner Grilled

Ratcheting up pressure on the “Black Monday” campaign, police kept two activists in jail on Tuesday night after arresting them on Monday at a peaceful vigil, while a Spanish national was also grilled by immigration police over her involvement.

The campaign was launched 15 weeks ago to call for the release of four officers at local rights group Adhoc and an election official who were jailed in what are widely perceived to be politically motivated cases. On Monday evening, social activists Tep Vanny and Bov Sophea were bundled into police vehicles as authorities broke up a vigil in Phnom Penh’s Boeng Kak neighborhood attended mostly by women and children who held lotus flowers and banners as they shouted slogans.

While arrests of activists have been a regular occurrence during three months of Black Monday demonstrations, they have always been released on the same day they were detained, usually after signing a contract to cease protesting.

Ms. Vanny and Ms. Sophea, however, have now been held in the Daun Penh district police station for two nights—by law, they may be detained without charge for 48 hours unless a special extension is approved by a prosecutor.

City Hall spokesman Mean Chanyada said authorities had decided to take stronger action against the pair because the campaigners had repeatedly ignored warnings and broken promises not to rally in public.

“The Black Monday campaign, the government has not allowed them to do it. We have made contracts with them many times but they never follow them, so police have to take action,” Mr. Chanyada said.

No foreigner should ever involve themselves in another countries political situation, especially Cambodia after the recent comments coming out from the government.

Meh, I think it's noble, but they are too often naive in their understanding of the big picture, causing more damage than good.

That Gonzales fellow got a lot more attention than any locals did over his cause.

Always good for the authorities' public relations exercise to arrest one Spanish tourist lady with a black T-shirt on Monday... well done.
She was there for the photos and it seems to have worked quite well. If the authorities had ignored her we wouldn't be discussing this.

Meanwhile, Marga Bujosa Segoda, a Spanish researcher, was deported last night after being detained on Tuesday morning for protesting Vanny and Sophea’s arrest outside the Daun Penh police station. At the time, Segoda was clad in a black T-shirt embossed with the slogan “free the activists”.

Uk Hei Sela, head of investigations at the immigration department, said the Interior Ministry had approved her deportation after they found that she was on a business visa, but didn’t have a work permit.

“She was also involved in the Black Monday campaign, but was not part of any organisation,” he said. “She had a work visa but did not work anywhere.”

Before departing, Segoda posted on Facebook that she had gone back to the immigration department to collect her passport, which had been kept for verification. There, she was informed that she had to leave the country.

“They trick me, they told me I needed to go to pick my passport and instead they detained me until I leave from Cambodia,” she wrote in English.

Licadho’s director Naly Pilorge said yesterday’s court proceedings and Segado’s departure would only perpetuate “distrust against the judiciary” and show that justice was a privilege only for the wealthy...
