Unidentified Man Shot Dead in Kandal

Police said they are trying to find the suspect in the shooting death of a foreign national on Wednesday evening in Kandal province’s Kandal Stueng district, the motive of which has yet to be determined.

Kandal Stueng district police said the shooting happened at about 5:30pm and neither the suspect nor the victim had been identified.

“It wasn’t a drive-by shooting; the suspect shot the victim and escaped by car. The victim is Chinese,” the officer said, declining to give his name.

Provincial police said in a report that the victim was either a Chinese or Korean national, while the suspect, who used a pistol and escaped in a Kia Morning car, had yet to be identified.

Police said the suspect shot the victim and then escaped in the vehicle, leaving the victim at the scene in Prek Roka commune’s Koh Khnor village. District and commune police then chased the suspect to Takeo province, where he ditched the car and fled on foot in Baty district’s Hanuman Khang Cheung village.

Four bullets hit the victim, whose body was sent to Chey Chumneas hospital in Kandal province. The car was taken to Takeo provincial Military Police headquarters for further investigation.

Eng Hy, spokesman of the National Military Police, said they were trying to locate the suspect and were investigating the motive behind the killing. He added that the seized vehicle would be sent to the provincial court for legal procedures.

South Korean National Shot Dead at Rest Stop in Kandal

by Phan Soumy | August 12, 2016

Police are searching for an unidentified man who fatally shot a South Korean national at a rest stop in Kandal province on Wednesday evening, but are without leads or possible motives.

A South Korean Embassy official, however, said the victim was likely killed over a business dispute.

Witnesses say the suspect and victim arrived at a roadside shelter in Kandal Stung district together shortly before the suspect was seen driving away alone at about 5:30 p.m., district police chief Men Chanrith said on Thursday.

“People said they arrived together in a car. It appeared as if they came to inspect the land,” he said, adding that at least two locals had seen the men together. “The shooting occurred after they got out of the car and went to the community rest stop.”

The South Korean man, the police chief said, was shot three times, including in the left side of his head.

Immediately after the shooting, residents saw the gunman flee the scene in the orange car that the pair had arrived in, which was later found abandoned along National Road 2 in Takeo province to the south, Mr. Chanrith said.

Suspect Arrested in Shooting of South Korean: Embassy

by Phan Soumy | August 15, 2016

Military police have arrested a Cambodian suspect in the fatal shooting of a South Korean man in Kandal province last week, according to an official at the South Korean Embassy.

Na Hongkyu, the embassy’s law enforcement liaison, said on Sunday that he was informed of the arrest near Phnom Penh’s Central Market on Saturday night.

“The suspect was arrested,” he said. “The military police informed me.”

Mr. Na said he did not know anything about who the suspect was and identified the victim only as Cho.

Last week, he said Cho was a mobile phone importer and distributor and speculated that he was killed “because of business.”

Officials Quiet on Foreigner’s Murder

Authorities have been tight-lipped over the death of a foreign national in Kandal province’s Koh Khnor village on Wednesday, despite local media reporting that the killer was arrested in Phnom Penh yesterday.

The identities of both the suspect and victim and the motive for the killing have yet to be revealed by authorities, saying the release of details would disrupt the investigation. Provincial police have said only that he was Korean or Chinese.

Yesterday, the government-affiliated media outlet Fresh News reported that it received information from an anonymous Military Police officer who said Phnom Penh Military Police had arrested the murderer near Sorya Shopping Center in Daun Penh district. The report said the motive of the killing was over an unpaid debt.
National Military Police spokesman Eng Hy would not confirm or deny the arrest.http://www.khmertimeskh.com/news/28464/ ... -s-murder/
