Free ? Windows 10 Upgrade
It's usually tough to find find 'free' and Microsoft in the same sentence, but if you've already got 7, 8, or 8.1 Mobile they'll update you for nothing. Sign up here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/about

Re: Free ? Windows 10 Upgrade
Yes, I noticed a Windows icon in the task bar this morning that wasn't previously there. Mousing over it says "Get Windows 10".
WackyJacky, you try it first and let us know how it works out.
Found this if anyone is interested (or disinterested):

From here. The update that is causing this notification to show up is KB3035583, which also happens to be responsible for the actual Windows 10 upgrade process. If you got the prompt and want to get rid of the notification, this is the update you’ll want to uninstall. Alternatively, if you didn’t get a prompt but want to reserve and install your free Windows 10 upgrade, make sure you have this update installed.

If it's anything like W8 or 8.1 which most people didn't think any improvement(I hated my windows 8 based cell phone ) then wait until all the teething problems have been resolved or stick with W7!

I got Windows XP for free with a PC magazine over a decade ago! Windows 10, who needs it?!

You don't obviously. The rest of us need at least 7 to get most of the other software to work.
Re: Free ? Windows 10 Upgrade
You should try LoseThos. It is the best free OS for getting software running.

Re: Free ? Windows 10 Upgrade
thanks for the info on what to uninstall to make that 10 icon go away. Took me over a week to get 7 running decently on an Atom processor netbook as it IS. Still runs at twice the RAM used as my other one which is XP. The oldest one is Linux Mint, just so I'm covered.

Re: Free ? Windows 10 Upgrade
I uninstalled that update and STILL have the offer(demand) to install Windows 10. I'm viewing it as a VIRUS. Definitely an attempt to get the horse back in the barn. Future Winblows users will have to pay yearly to use the OS of that I am certain. This need for a Winblows "account" is ominous. I suppose one could put a program in cars that would diable them if a yearly "account" fee is not paid.
more and more Linux is looking like the only safe way to go.
