Avatar url invalid?

I've copied and pasted an image url from shutterfly to edit my avatar to be told it's an invalid url. Not sure why but then I'm somewhat techno challenged. Any advice as to why, or what I can do.
How cool would it be if a member could just upload directly from his laptop to edit his avatar image.?

Not sure what went wrong, but if you post the picture (or the link to) here I can do it.
This happens to be about as techy as I can get.
