Honestly, after spending a week in KL working telecommute to the US, I don't find this hard to believe at all. It felt odd to be looking forward to my Cambodian internet connection while in what was mostly a nice 1st world country.

The story on HK is not as black and white as it seems. Those kind of speeds are only available on the godawful estates in New Territories, miles and light years from HK Island.

I lived in midlevels in HK, the main expat area and literally within spitting distance of the main bar and restaurant areas. My connection was utterly appalling - if I got 512 Kbs I was lucky. It was good for chat and low level surfing only.

Given the balance between cost and speed, I reckon Cambodia's internet offering is one of the best in the world.

True that! Fast 3G internet from your phone costing a mere $5 for 3.5GB of data is CHEAP! !

I am surprised to see Philippines at the bottom. I always presumed they were a bit more advanced than places like Cambo or even Thai
Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticise them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes

Cambodia is way ahead of SA in internet, and the mobile phone networks are far cheaper and superior too.

I bought a sim card in Johannesburg and had to wait 2 days for it to be activated. Morons.
