It takes longer than a while, especially if the target router is correctly configured (think 5 key attempts per minute or thereabouts). You could get very old waiting for it to crack.

You simply ain't going to brute WPA2 using domestic equipment. Not without some very serious hardware, plenty of power, and lots of cooling.

Wireshark won't help you with a wpa2 key. WEP yes as its sent unencrypted but who has used WEP this decade?

You don't try to brute the router... you deauth a client and start snagging auth beacons and then brute the capture files until one locks in... then use it.
Considering how many places here just use the phone number as the password it shouldn't take long.... just run the number series.

If you are serious about testing your own network, or someone else's (with their permission naturally) this site has worked for me in the past. Two out of three networks i tested were cracked
Couple of points that need adding to this thread
All info is purely for educational purposes
Only try this on your own network or with explicit permission from the network owner
In most countries this is illegal ( In some using an unsecured network is illegal)
The chances of getting caught are negligible
A lot of countries have really draconian penalties for hacking into networks
Lastly don't take the piss.If you exceed a data limit the connection might simply be restricted or disconnected
It's great fun when it works especially if your neighbours are obnoxious NGO w*****s
