PP to SR by boat | day trips on the river

Two boat-related questions...

1. Can someone please provide a blow-by-blow (behave) on travelling from PP to SR by boat - whether you need to book, where and when to board, what to expect on the trip (juggling clowns? I don't like clowns), tuktuk scams at the SR end, etc. - and any photos?

2. Any suitable day trips on the river other than the 'let's have drinkies on the water and wave to the FCC crowd' variety? A couple of hours or more, not too tourist trappy, something to see/do - suitable for a western guest?

And what the hell is a stuns'l?

The only things I have heard about the trip up the river is that it is a big clusterfuck and expensive. This information is at least several years old...things might have changed....or not. Also...are you and Mrs. Stroppy good swimmers? You might need to be.

Good, good. Except for the part that we need to be in SR anyway and would rather river it than fly it to see some country...

At least one of us is... although the locals would probably look to use me as a flotation device.

You just mean in Cambodia, right? Or are you some kind of Achille Lauro survivor or something?

Horace last took a boat ride back when he was a youngun, back in April, 1912. It started out like any other day, and then turned chilly...

Took the trip from SR to PP back in 2006. Arranged a ticket thru the hotel, $25
mini bus picked us up an took us to the pier
75% westerners ( yes, even back than)
1st hour was nice ( but fucking LOUD engine)
than 4 hours of total boredom when ur out in the middle of the lake
last hour was nice as we approached the PP pier ( back than it was at the end of street 108)

once, ok, never again.

If you take the sunset cruises in PP they are fun an nice/cheap to go with a few friends.

Amusing, yet so absolutely horrifyingly correct.
Had a guy tell me whilst travelling from PP to BKK by land that if the boat sinks, swim as far as you can down, then out. Reason being that swimmers will be latched onto by the multitude and everyone'll go down. His other gem: always sit in the back row of the bus so as to use the other passengers as shock absorbers in a crash. Fun fucker full of wisdom, that guy.
