Cambodia to allow quarantine-free entry for travellers from Thailand by air
Cambodia will allow Thais and foreign travellers in Thailand to fly into the country without quarantine, Cambodian Prime Minister HE has said.

In a voice recording shared on a government Telegram group, HE instructed the ministers of tourism and foreign affairs during a Council of Ministers meeting last week vodenglish.news reported.

The Thai government on October 21 announced that vaccinated arrivals from 46 countries, including Cambodia, will not have to undergo quarantine starting November 1.

He added that flights should be reopened for passengers from Thailand, including those coming through the country as there has been a principle of one visa being usable in the two countries.

The PM also said that Cambodia would resume flights from Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines in a bid towards reopening the country.

Currently, Cambodia only has passenger flights arriving from China, Singapore and the Republic of Korea. VNA

The PM said that in a conversation on Friday night. Nothing from that conversation has been made official yet, the headline of the VOD & Khmer Times articles are misleading.

I think it is unlikely they will introduce quarantine free arrival for travellers from Thailand ONLY, it makes no sense, a country where COVID rates are ridiculously high and vaxx rates are low, to enter quarantine free but make everyone else arriving from other countries still quarantine. (But hey, stranger decisions have been made, and I will most likely be proven wrong... TIC)

Plus, land borders remain closed to foreigners, and there are still no direct, commercial passenger flights yet.

We are likely to see further changes soon. But I would not put any faith into articles like these that, wait until there is an official announcement and directive.

If I understand Thailand's new requirements, a trip to Thailand would still include 5-6 tests and one night in Thailand waiting for testing results (assuming Cambodia would remove quarantine requirements for incoming travelers but still require testing).

So prior to leaving we'd need to get PCR test.

Arriving in Thailand would get PCR test.

6 days later get either PCR test or rapid test at approved spots.

Within 72 hours of coming back to Cambodia need PCR test.

Upon arrival get PCR test.

7 or 13 days later get another PCR test?

For a family of four that is a lot of money and effort just for testing. My wife and I discussed last night and we agreed we're waiting to see if some of the testing nonsense goes away in another 3-4 months before thinking of travelling for a vacation.

Cambodia's criteria for reduced quarantine for vaccinated travellers is - fully vaccinated as per the Vaccines required dosage (ie. J&J x1, AZ x2, etc) at least 14 days prior to arrival in Cambodia. Must have a hard copy (not digital) of Vaccination certificate/Card issued by recognised health authority in country where vaccinated, must state Name, Type of Vaccine, Date of Vaccinations.

This can also indicate that regular mail might be reinstated. I believe it all comes in on Thai Airways.

People need to be patient for a month or so. It's all in a state of (self created ) flux, but the direction of travel is very encouraging.

It would be helpful if the Thai and Cambodian authorities had a meeting and came up with something coherent and realistic requirements (think ZERO quarantine) and gave at least one month's notice so airlines can prepare for an influx of demand. Otherwise what flights that are currently flying into PP will have 3 people chasing 1 seat and we all know what that means.

The Ministry of Tourism has announced the first stages in the long awaited reopening of international tourism in Cambodia with the introduction of ‘vaccine tourism’ in a number of locations.

The tours will first be offered in Sihanoukville, the island of Koh Rong and at the Darasakor Resort in Botum Sakor District, Koh Kong Province.

Tours will then be implemented in Siem Reap in January 2022 as part of the Vaccine Tourism Program, which allows international tourists to stay and visit local or safe tourist destinations for five days without the need for a hotel quarantine.

An unofficial translation of part of the statement (pdf below) says:

‘The Ministry of Tourism is honored to inform the public and international tourists that in accordance with the high permission of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Cambodia will start accepting international tourists. Those wishing to visit Cambodia from November 30, 2021 onwards, starting in Sihanoukville, Koh Rong, Sihanoukville and Darasakor area of ​​Koh Kong province and then in Siem Reap, in January 2022, within the framework of the Vaccine Tourism Program, which allows international tourists to stay and visit local or safe tourist destinations for 5 days without the need for a hotel quarantine.
