Carrying prescription drugs into other countries

After reading the Bali drug thread (below), I was wondering how many times I've been merrily carrying prescription drugs into (or through) countries where you can get banged up for illegal drugs. I'm talking about small amounts.

I found this, which gives the international guidelines on what you can carry, but what I was looking for was a list of regulations by country.

Does anyone know about restrictions on taking prescription drugs to the UK, US, Australia, New Zealand, and countries in SEA ?

Someone told me a couple of years ago about a hassle they had with customs when taking a few valium into Australia. Does that seem realistic ?

i have had no trouble into usa or oz

i also carry Valiums and have for the past 30 years
DONT take them in their box's > and take them out of the sealed strips and just carry them in a small plastic envelope

He got caught for something other than a random search, I have not been pulled out and searched, for a LONG long time...

I do the same as Richard. Small amounts (6-12 pills). Never had a problem.

I thought most of you were intelligent. Prescription drug laws vary drastically from county to country. You think you are clever bringing valium in to an Asian country and that your barang immunity will work. Get caught bringing valium unto Japan and you will be fitted with a prison wedding veil. I am hope you are joking or you are very naive. Probably best you get off the valium because it is seriously affecting your judgement. In many countries valium is no different than cocaine or heroin. I doubt the Bali guy would have been busted for the valium alone but the cannabis kinda sealed that deal.

I've often taken Valium back to AU, but I almost always tick *something* on the Customs declaration. If you tick prescription meds, you have fulfilled the honesty option, and they really wouldn't care unless you had a large qty.

yep a Valium every couple of weeks is much worse than a heroin or coke addiction;
where are you from??

he got caught for the dope ( smell? or xray) and they later found the V..

That is why I posted this. We need information.
I didn't know you could go to prison for taking prescribed medication to Japan and I'm probably not the only one.

Not something that most people even think about IMO.

FYI - sorry for sounding so sanctimonious. In Japan, Advil is a prescription drug. I am not sure but even thinking about valium in Indonesia or Philippines might get you taken away or shot. I am not sure about Cambodia because so many prescription drugs are available at U Care and others.
