Kampot. So WTF?

Right, so I've been considering relocating to the Kep/Kampot area in a year or so, once I'm able to ditch my first career. And I'm looking at a few potentially income-producing options for once I'm there. But recently, however, I've noticed a number of guesthouses/restaurants in the area coming up for sale on the relevant Facebook pages, and that's caused a degree of worry.

What's going on? Are the Chinese moving east and changing things? Is it a coincidence that several people seem to be feeling the need to sell their fairly long-running businesses and bug out? And if so, why?

Has the area essentially peaked?

Thanks for the comments/insights,

From what I have seen, and learned from ex-Snooky expats living in Kampot ,and the people I meet in PP who have moved here, the answer is yes. The only thing thing that you said that was not quite correct was that people aren't moving because they sold out; they have been sold out by the Chinese.
They had no choice.
Cambodia has to stop this Chinese invasion now, or the kingdom of wonder will become the kingdom of the yen in the next few years.
Sad but true.

What does that mean.

Are we sure they are selling because the Chinese are invading Kampot? I thought it might just be because the Chinese are invading Sihanoukville and all the lowlife Sihanoukville expats are moving to Kampot, making it intolerable to regular Kampotheads.

At best give it 5 years, but I am afraid the change will happen very quickly.

How many "The Chinese are taking over Cambodia" threads does this forum need?

And anyone who puts WTF in a thread title is an imbecile.

Is Koh Kong the last chance saloon for jaded expats?
I have been reading about Koh Chang and it seems to be an ideal spot, apart from too much rain. It would have the same weather as Sihanoukville I suppose. Many Khmers live and work there apparently. It's very cheap to live there in the wet season and close to Cambodia. It's certainly a hell of a long way from Bangkok.
I like the idea of the three day moto ride to Battambong through the Cardamons, assuming that there are some trees left.
