Re: Trainspotting
5.5 hours to cover 225km is slow as all hell
And that is their advertised time. The average journey is much longer.
Kampot to phnom penh can take 8 hours on a bad day. 160km...
They can't run an efficient passenger service on single gauge rail lines, especially when 90% of their revenue comes from freight
And that is their advertised time. The average journey is much longer.

When it comes to transportation in Cambodia, I like slow.Jerry Atrick wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 6:20 pm 5.5 hours to cover 225km is slow as all hell

PP to Kampot shouldn't be much more than 5 hours surely?

It can be when there's three freight trains being let through or when there is a broken unit blocking the tracksDoc67 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 6:41 pmWhen it comes to transportation in Cambodia, I like slow.Jerry Atrick wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 6:20 pm 5.5 hours to cover 225km is slow as all hell

That is the reported time from a passenger who traveled yesterday- from the link I gave.Jerry Atrick wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 6:20 pm 5.5 hours to cover 225km is slow as all hell

It usually takes me around that from home in PP by taxi.
Royal group pretty much operates the passenger service as a condition of having the freight business.
It is a PR exercise to them.
They do not currently seem to see any potential in the passenger business at all.

I think it is the safest way to travel, slow journey through the countryside, and the added bonus of a comfortable seat and air-conditioning.
Always "hope" but never "expect".
