O"Smach
O"Smach
G"day, Went to O'smach on my last visa run to Thailand... It seemed like a very nice area but unfortunately i didn"t have a chance to have a good look around... The road there is exceptionally good... Has anyone spent any length of time in O"smach and can recommend anywhere interesting to see ??? It was a nice change from Poipet or Pailin for my visa run... Went up to Surin (Thailand) for a night, it was ok, same same !!! Just curious if O"smach has any hidden gems... Cheers

I caught a taxi from SR to the Osmaich border crossing a couple of years ago. I only saw a casino there. It’s a lovely driver from there up to Surin and Buriram. Thailand has lots of trees and organised agriculture compared to Cambodia. And every second vehicle in the towns is a pickup. Everyone is a farmer there.

"O' " just means stream or brook in Khmer, like O'Russei Market means "Bamboo Stream Market".

There are a number of impressive Khmer temples right on the border some few kilometers from the checkpoint (on Thai territory). A bit further away is Phanom Rung and surrounding temples. Surin has a good museum. 2 smaller temples at Prasat. North of Suring the elephant village.
The entire area is very rich in culture, stone age sites, silk worm raising and weaving, a large bird sanctuary at Prakornchai etc.

na JB is correct អូរ - O = Stream, channel, canal, brookwillyhilly wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2018 9:53 am I thought it meant none. Occateul Beach- no Cheteul trees?
Orussey - អូរឫស្សី = Bamboo stream
O'Smach អូរស្មាច់ = Smach stream (Smach is a type of tree)
