Thai Airways flight grounded after 'explosion' on takeoff.

PHUKET: Thai Airways has refused to comment on a flight from Phuket to Bangkok being cancelled after loud bangs were reported coming from one of the plane’s engines while accelerating for takeoff from Phuket International Airport on Tuesday night (Nov 29).

The aircraft, an Airbus A330-300 with registration HS-TEJ, was performing flight TG-206 from Phuket to Bangkok, reported global aviation safety website The Aviation Herald.

The aircraft “was accelerating for takeoff from runway 09 when the crew rejected takeoff after the right hand engine (PW4168) emitted a loud bang” said the report.

“Ground observers reported there had been a huge bang, the aircraft shuddered, the aircraft began to slow when two more bangs occurred from the right hand engine,” the report added.
No injuries were reported.

Years ago I used to fly Thai from the US to Bangkok every year and it was great, but they stopped flying to Seattle so I went with EVA and Asiana Airlines. I couple years ago I flew Thai once again, but from Manila to Bangkok and it was terrible. Late flight, filthy airplane with the overhead coming apart, and they charged me $80us for excess weight(baggage) that my previous flight with Asiana Airlines had not. They have gone way downhill and I won't fly with them again.

BTW? This sounds like they sucked a bird(s) into the engine.

It may be true, but in general Thai Airways is incompetent and over-priced, and doesn't deserve you patronage.

Flown with Thai many times and always found them to be good. Admittedly, usually in business.

CityNews – Passengers on a Thai Airways flight (TG111) from Chiang Mai to Bangkok were shocked and frightened after one of the engines exploded 20 minutes after takeoff.bkk air flight

On June 11, at around 5.35pm, one of the engines failed on the aircraft, causing a large explosion to be heard and caused the aircraft to shake.

The captain of the aircraft managed turn back to Chiang Mai Airport and perform an emergency landing.

All passengers were safe and no further damage to the aircraft was reported.

Thai Airways posted on their Facebook account that the cause of the explosion was ‘engine failure’ and people do not need to panic.

Thai Airways then arranged another aircraft to take the passengers to Bangkok later the same day.

Flown with Thai many times and always found them to be good. Admittedly, usually in business.

Don't start me on this; for 1k more you go 1st and it becomes top notch, however in a few weeks time I will have to take them coach style and I can't say I am looking forward it.
