Eggs Benedict Tour Phnom Penh 2024

Post by Captain Bonez »

I have a lot of free time, I also like Eggs Benedict, so I thought I'd combine the 2 and go on a real slow tour around Phnom Penh for 3 or 4 months and try a bunch of Eggs Benedict once a week at different places and post the results (this ain't going to be as detailed as Herr Hanno's food reviews). I'm sure there's probably restaurants I missed, but unless there's some real hidden gem out there that I should really try, I think the 16 restaurants I tried were the main ones.

Here are easily the top 5 places in Phnom Penh to eat a fucking righteous Eggs Benedict at, in this order :thumb:
1. La Croisette
2. La Chronique
3. Sony Side Up (BEST value by miles)
4. Metro Hassakan

I'm not going to post pictures of every meal either, ain't no one got time for that shit. PM me for Egg Benny porn if you really want it. I'm also not going to post a detailed description of each one, because again, ain't no one got time for that. So below is a Google Doc I'd fill out after each one for you to peruse

I'll let you decide which ones look like tripe, or have watery piss hollandaise and which ones were actually good

BTW, if you're a restaurant owner, just get a normal fuckin' plate for your food. A board, or some weird slate looking tray to eat messy food on is some imbecilic shit

Thanks! This is useful information. Sony Side Up makes great breakfasts, and you can get a side of home fried potatoes---critical to eating up the remaining hollandaise sauce.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this pet peeve. Slate is so dated and naff, and a crap surface to eat off, and wooden boards are a wonderful place for bacteria to hide in - all those knife scars and opened grain etc. Having seen some of the washing up protocols in local kitchens, I will never eat off a wooden board.

I agree with La Croisette and Sunny Side up, having been to both. However, the last time I had one at Metro it was very poor - the 'hollandaise sauce' had a very thick consistency and a very orangey hue to eat, as if it had been mixed with a processed cheese sauce. I was surprised by this lapse in standard as their food is usually very consistent, despite having many chefs on the payroll.

Excellent report. :hattip:

Also the noise and feeling when scraping cutlery over slate sends shivers up my spine.

Aren’t spreadsheets marvellous! Very concise, thank you 🙏🏻

How baked were you when you agreed to pay 10 bucks @Farm to Table?
The spreadsheet isn’t clear but there must of been some salmon involved surely?

Indica for breakfast can be dangerous Fam!

Been to Sony Side Up many times and never got disappointed. Family business served with a smile. The avocado-toast topped with poached eggs and hollandaise is to die for. I loved to hang out there and watch street life.
work is for people who cant find truffles

There was plenty of kief involved 👍🏻

The Farm to Table meal was peculiar. They served it with some BBQ pulled pork which wasn't so bad to be fair, but just didn't really infuse too well as an Eggs Benedict dish. The bread had turned to slop because of the juicy pulled pork, so that was gash. The hollandaise wasn't so shit-hot either and the yolk wasn't runny. Fail.

I paid the $10 because it might have been the best one in town. Gotta be in it to win it :bong:
