$10 - All-You-Can-Eat-Steak - Bar 21 near Bassac Lane

Post by Doc67 »

I'll say this from the start... This is not Haute Cuisine. But it is very good value at $10

This deal is available on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Bar 21 is situated is a little street just south of Bassac Lane at the junction of street 21 and 830. I know 830 is an anomaly sitting between 312 and 354, but that's what google maps says so don't shoot the messenger. I have put a map below.

$10 gets you the right to stuff your face with pretty decent rump steak until your sides explode. All accompanied by buffet salad, some pretty anaemic looking mash or fries, which are not too bad. The steak is BBQ'd over coals and is generally done rare to medium rare for the thick pieces and sometimes a bit too well done for the smaller thinner pieces. Don't expect too much solid advice from the BBQ guy, you have to have a close look and take a flyer.

The good thing is, if you get a tough piece, just go back and take another one! Or take about 3 pieces from the get-go and you're bound to find at least two good bits. But this is the way with rump, it has plenty of flavour, it is very lean but it can be a bit tough. Go for the very thick bits and you wont go far wrong. (In a normal restaurant you just get stuck with what they give you.)

Beer is $1.50 which is not bad for that area, and cocktails $3. Have a Long Island Ice Tea and see if you can walk afterwards.

The seating is of a refectory style benches with big groups of 8 commonplace. There are lots of 4's though and you can always eat at the bar is you're a 1 or a 2. Plenty of fans too which makes it more comfortable when you get the meat sweats.

If you like steak and can eat your money's worth then this is a treat. The place even has a resident dog, an old Golden Retriever, who will happily take any tough bitt of steak off your hands. (he looks very much like Monty the Dog from TRDavid fame - you be the judge)

Here's the pics...

I did tell you it ain't fancy

Taking one or finding one?

Take one and you'll look like a right cheapskate (unless she's as big as a water buffalo, in which case you'll be a hero).

Finding one... not many customers of the 'Babe' variety unless you mean the pig version, in which case there's plenty of them at the trough.

There are however a couple of very cute staff members to schmooze...

Hope this helps...

My friend keeps harassing me about this place and I walked to it from where I was living.. Its not too far from The lost room restaurant.. yes i know its closed lol but a good landmark

I went once on a thursday. Mostly full of Westerners who looked like professional teachers in small groups or NGO people. The only attractive customer I remember was a khmer woman who was with some overweight dude.. It just stood out because how difference in attractive levels were for each person. There are some waitresses there. I did see another table with a few attractive khmer women. I think my friend told me one was gf of the owner..but forget.

There are even expat females there. They were with the group of guys who might of been teachers. They seemed like teachers in possibly the top tier schools or 2nd tier schools

I don't go to places with many teachers, lol.
No, I also stay in this area and can recommend this bar. Unfortunately I am not a big steak eater.

Definitely not 3rd tier though?

Jesus mate, how would you even possibly know that by looking at someone.

I'd be careful to not to assume too much about people based on your own preconceived notions, beliefs and prejudices.

It'd be like reading your username, BklyBoy (Brooklyn), seeing your avatar (bagel) and making the knee-jerk assumption that you're a jew without knowing anything about you.

"Oh look, young twenty somethings...on ballsack lane......they're wearing ties......I know, TEFL jobbers! Wait, those ties look expensive and nice.......they have leather shoes......must be top tier TEFL jobbers."

See what I mean? Not cool. Bad things happen when people start down roads like that.

And another one......when you dine out, do you have each patron submit to a quick questionnaire? How would you even know what their profession is?

I'm not a teacher either but find it troubling the extent that some people need to have some sub-sect of their environment to look down on and mock.

I don't give a rats ass if the person I'm eating next to is a TEFL jobber or not.....even 1st tier.......but it is probably safe to say that I wouldn't want to be eating next to you two judgmental tossers.

FFS man.

I'm a 4th tier Teffler (basically the same as 3rd tier, but we change our underwear once a week) and a level six vegan ( I won't even look at an animal for fear of hurting its feelings).
All CEO members are invited to mine for a scrumptious dinner. First course will be fair trade, rain forest alliance and FSC certified rain water, actually all the courses will be that.
All are welcome (offer not good in dry season).
P.s. Please use enviro friendly transport and come during a full moon (it gets dark at night).
Pps don't judge me, I have feelings
up to you...

Man Brody you really don't get a joke. I was just referring to the other dude who was all obsessed with that teacher thing. I don't really care what people are doing.
