English man attempts suicide on thai road says he wants to die.
I would too if I was stuck in Thailand.

Let's hope you stay in Darwin or wherever you claim to be. Asia sounds a bit too challenging for you. Surely you will never leave the socialist workers collective in Australia.

This is just sad. Mental illness strikes without fear or favour. His behaviour is a call for help and sadly, it won't be forthcoming. In years gone by the embassy would have intervened and got him home... today they'll let him die because he's not a business donor to the Tory party.

They have said on ThaiVisa that this is his third attempt in Thailand, and the police are holding his passport pending a court case. Ouch.

They also mention a website called "www.meetup.com"

Supposedly where you can meet up with people who don't drink. Sounds like the most anti-social social network there is, and I've never even heard of it.

Anyone used it?

You can meet people who do drink on Meetup.com (in fact several Chiang Mai groups are based around drinking as the central activity). It's actually quite useful if you like to do stuff in your spare time... but I've learned over the years that people who voluntary gather around a single subject are often those you'd probably not want to meet too. The photography club here is brilliant (Meetup organized) but the entrepreneurs group is full of little kids spending mummy and daddy's money without a fucking clue how to run a business - which is why none of them make any of their own money.
