10000 native english teachers required in Thailand

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Post by truffledog »

quote:

"He said there are currently 7,000 foreign teachers in Thai schools, but this is not enough, adding that another 10,000 foreign teachers are required."
"To improve students’ foreign language skills, Mr Nataphol said the ministry is planning to hire a large number of native English teachers and other native speakers of widely-used languages such as Chinese.
"The minister has recently appealed to foreign embassies to help him find native speakers who can teach foreign languages to Thai students as part of government-to-government cooperation programmes"

There is no mention of pay for the teachers they would wish to employ, any idea on pay structure and working hours. I know of two guys years ago lived in the same block of apartments, the English guy was a real qualified teacher working in high school and seemed to be on shit pay, the other was East European working part time with lower school kids, English was his second language and not that good overall, but he made up his time and money with privet classes.

farang teachers teaching in thai schools ( not university) earn between 25-35,000 baht/month
enough to get by living alone, but not much

It's directed at rural scbools so the cost of living will be lower, I wonder how many will be attracted to living in rural Thailand though.
