Thailand is destined to reclaim its title as the Land of Smiles, perhaps with "Hungry Nation" added for good measure.

This is a Very wise move by Thailand .Their economy will benefit enormously & many rural people will receive extra legitimate ( and therefore taxable) income.Eventually Cambodia will follow suit when their agricultural public servants see the massive income/profits that their Thai neighbors are enjoying.

Hahahahaha. Who would have predicted this? Thai's are smart, they know which way the wind is blowing.

^^^ I would replace "smart" with desperate. Their economy is actually contracting. Major corporations, e.g., Mazda, are moving some manufacturing back home or to Vietnam. Quite a few factories suddenly closed up shop, putting thousands out of work. Agricultural sector is crying because their products are over-priced due to the soaring Thai baht.
