Six Chinese nationals, three in wheelchairs, have been arrested for begging on the streets in Bangkok.
The beggars, four men and two women, were wheeled out at a police news conference on Wednesday.
They were detained on footpaths near Ari and On Nut skytrain stations on Feb 1, immigration chief Pol Maj Gen Surachate Hakparn said.
They had rented hotel rooms on Soi Intharama and went out to beg for money at various spots around Bangkok in the mornings, returning to their rooms in the evening. They exchanged any small coins they received at convenience stores, Pol Lt Gen Surachate said.
All had entered the country on tourist visas. Most had overstayed, he said.
The four men were identified as Huang Yunlin, 54, Lei Fengjun, 44, Li Baishan, 47, and Lin Yanjun, 34, and the women as Huang Genhua, 30, and Lai Meilin, 32. Both women and Mr Huang are disabled.
They have been charged with begging under Section 13 of the 2016 Beggar Control Act. Violators are liable to a maximum jail term of one month and/or fine up to 10,000 baht.

Is begging illegal in China or do they lose points on their social credit score?
Re: Chinese in Wheelchairs Arrested for Begging in Bangkok
Definitely lose social credit, as would any member of the public assisting them with a donation
Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.

Nah, It's made in China.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

6 Thai provinces to become 'beggar-free'
Jan 09, 2019
Street beggars found to be repeat offenders will face a fine of up to Bt10,000 (S$424), while six provinces will be declared "beggar-free zones" under a flagship project, under a new regulation approved by the Beggar Control Committee this week.
The six pilot provinces are Sing Buri, Prachin Buri, Lamphun, Phatthalung, Buri Ram, and Sukhothai, while another 11 provinces have also announced their intention to become beggar-frees zones and eventually covered under the project umbrella.
The project details were discussed at the committee's first annual meeting on Monday, which included Social Development and Human Security Minister General Anantaporn Kanjanarat.
The meeting discussed the first beggar control road map (2019-2021), which contained concrete measures to reduce the number of beggars.
Anantaporn also instructed ministry officials to send a letter to the Royal Thai Police asking that officers enforce the Beggar Control Act 2016's Article 19. Under that article, those caught illegally begging on street can be punished with maximum of one month in jail and/or a maximum Bt10,000 fine.
The committee suggested that police punish violators through a stepped rate of fines: a Bt500 fine for first-timers; a Bt2,000 fine for a second offence; a Bt5,000 fine for third-timers offenders and a Bt10,000 fine for those facing their fourth arrest or more. The meeting also heard about action taken against beggars across the nation.

Re: Chinese in Wheelchairs Arrested for Begging in Bangkok
And when will they start collaring Western begpackers?
Re: Chinese in Wheelchairs Arrested for Begging in Bangkok
The Chinese government has severely cracked down on begging in subway stations or other crowded places
Re: Chinese in Wheelchairs Arrested for Begging in Bangkok
Well it is good to know that they have appointed a Beggar Control Committee, but what do you suppose they mean when they said the beggars exchanged any small coins they received at convenience stores?

What it says. They take their sack-loads of coins at the end of the day and exchange them for notes. Be interesting to know how much they were making.
