On Thursday Night, Immigration Officers detained a 32 year old Russian who is wanted in his native country in relation to a theft case dating back to 2010.
Police arrested Mr. Andrey Tsirp at the front of Soi 6 on the Pratamnuk Road, just before 7pm. The Russian Embassy had earlier requested Immigration to locate and arrest the man so he could be returned to Russia to face charges of theft.
When he was taken to the Immigration Office in Jomtien checks were made and Mr. Tsirp was found to possess an expired visa in his passport which stated he was permitted to remain in Thailand until 14th September.
During questioning Mr. Tsirp is alleged to have offered officers 700,000 Baht in cash to secure his release. The alleged bribe was not accepted and it was decided to charge him with attempting to bribe a Royal Thai Police Officer and Visa Overstay.
After the charges in Thailand have been dealt with, the suspect will be handed to Russian Embassy Officials so he can be returned to Russia to face the charges of theft.
