BANGKOK: Search and rescue teams in Thailand were looking on Monday for 13 members of an under-16 soccer team trapped in a flooded cave complex deep inside a mountain.

The boys' bicycles and soccer boots were found at the mouth of the Tham Luang caves, in the northern province of Chiang Rai, after they went missing late on Saturday.

They were believed to have been trapped by rising waters inside the cave network when heavy rain hit.

although they have water, no food and time is running out

The search for 12 teenage football (soccer) players and their coach believed to be trapped in a flooded cave complex in Thailand resumed for a fourth day Tuesday.
As a team of elite Navy divers re-entered the Tham Luang caves in the northern province of Chaing Rai, the boys's anxious parents gathered outside the entrance and offered desperate prayers for the children's safe return.

The boys and their coach were reported missing Saturday, when they did not return from practice. The search began when their bicycles and soccer cleats were found outside the entrance of the complex. Search officials believe the team has taken shelter inside a large chamber deep inside the complex.

This story had kinda fallen of the radar, but then I saw it again on the local TV newscast here (in the states). Made me realize it's been a few days, not looking good. Really feel for the parents.

Saw on the local news video people waving fishing nets at entrance to cave, Something about letting the spirits go... ? Will have to ask my wife about this when she gets home from work.

If anyone has later breaking news on this story please post.

I just read that the only way they can conduct a search is to pump water out. No underwater resuce divers anywhere in the country? Even Cambodia has them.

they are pumping water out and " An elite dive team from the Royal Thai Navy, which is similar to U.S. Navy SEALs, has been assisting in the rescue effort"
To much dam rain..... I've been inside caves, (in Kentucky, west Virginia) for over 30 hours, dam scary when the light go out
Rescuers led by a team of elite navy divers pumped water out of a partially flooded cave in northern Thailand on Tuesday in a bid to rescue 12 members of a boys’ soccer team and their coach who went missing four days earlier.

Battling darkness, poor ventilation and muddy waters that rose to almost 23 feet following heavy rains over the weekend, the rescuers were racing to create breathing space for divers to venture deeper into the labyrinthine cave complex in a search that has riveted the country.

Watching the news now it seems like they had finally deployed a big number of army personnel to be part of the rescue. Also showed 2 big pumps on a truck on site and unrolling big and long rubber hose I guess attempting to pump water our now.

This cross section is being shown for a long time if you look at it there’re many challenges the divers has to go through to get to the kids

This is dominating my Facebook feed and I watched a live video from one of the news crews last night as the 3 British diving experts arrived on site to assist. To be honest it looked like disorganised chaos and I thought the media scrum in the circumstances pretty sickening, they should have been allowed nowhere near the scene of operation. I hopeit’s a happy ending rather than a tragedy, but I’ve got to question what a responsible adult was thinking going in there given the time of year and obvious changeable conditions.

6 days no food.... living in the dark where u cant see ur hand in front of you.
CHIANG RAI, Thailand — Thai rescue workers will drill a narrow shaft into a cave where 12 schoolboys and their soccer coach are believed to be trapped by flood waters, Thailand’s interior minister said on Wednesday, the fourth day of a search that has been hampered by heavy rain.
Thai volunteers and military teams, including 45 navy SEAL unit members, have been deployed at the flooded cave complex, which runs 10 km (6 miles) under a mountain in the northern province of Chiang Rai.

Apart from some footprints and marks left by their muddy hands near the cave entrance, nothing has been seen or heard of them since Saturday evening, and the race to find them has dominated Thai news.

“I’m confident all are still alive,” Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha told reporters.

“Massive Amounts” of Water

Vern Unsworth, a British cave explorer based in Chiang Rai who has joined the search, said a lot of water was seeping into the cave from two directions.

“There is a watershed inside, which is unusual. It means there is water coming in from two directions,” Unsworth told Reuters. “The biggest challenge is the water. Massive amounts.”

Three divers coming from Britain were expected to reach Thailand on Wednesday evening to join the search, the interior minister said.

The US military has sent a search and rescue team at the request of the Thai government, Lieutenant Commander Nicole Schwegman, a spokeswoman for the US Indo-Pacific Command, told Reuters.

Thailand has asked the United States for survivor detection equipment, Tourism Minister Weerasak Kowsurat said.

Fever Of Hoaxes, Superstitions Deluge Cave Rescue Frenzy
30 June 2018
The authorities on Thursday said they have not yet found the dozen young footballers and their coach who went missing inside a cave nearly a week ago, contrary to rumors on social media.

As the search operation has become the national monotopic and a source of interest abroad, it’s invited the kind of rampant misinformation that has come to characterize the online world. While the effort has attracted the thoughts and prayers if millions, it has also inspired expression of powerful superstition and virtual hoaxes...
