Koh Tao ferry fire

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Koh Tao ferry fire

Post by Spigzy »

Just another smiling day in the land of [our tourism industry is falling apart]

I've tended to stay away from boats in the KoW & region, way too many boats that just don't look remotely seaworthy, with a ten year old captain running the motor at 10,000 rpm. No thanks.

If the ferry crossing doesn't kill you, their resident serial killer might.

It happens. That wouldn't stop me from taking a boat though, neither in Thailand nor in Cambodia. There are other (more likely) ways to die, like on the roads. When your number is up, off you go.

Exactly. Most people don't think twice about getting in a tuk tuk or riding a motorbike, and they are the cause of who knows how many deaths a week.

Multiple ferries go between Koh Tao, Samui, and Phangan every single day, almost always without any kind of problem. Same with all the other islands. Your chances of arriving safe and incident-free are extremely good.

It’s rather difficult to suppress the recent news of a Koh Tao ferry fire and the earlier sinking of a Koh Tao ferry and the young man who died during a train trip towards Koh Tao. However, the locals on Koh Tao suppressed news of the mysterious and tragic death of UK tourist Theo Bailey for several weeks. Theo participated in the Koh Tao Pub crawl with his longtime girlfriend, Chantal Xerri on 18 March 2024 and was discovered dead outside Roctopus Dive Shop at around 3.00 pm on 19 March 2024. Many people on the island and within Thailand only learned about the tragedy via sources outside the kingdom through the internet 🛜

The story was covered by half a dozen UK papers on 12 April 2024.

@Ian Yarwood have you just used one thread to post the same story as on another thread?
