Death of the full moon party

I went back in 1989, Had a bungalow over the sea for 200 baht over the hill from Haad rin beach an there were maybe 250 party goers on the beach
couldn't imagine what it was like over the past 10 year

The Full Moon Party on the Thai island of Koh Pha Ngan is the stuff of legend.

Now Covid-19 has put a stop to it. And some see an opportunity for a different type of tourism.
Is this the end of backpacking?

I went to one maybe 15 years ago. Just a string of beach bars all blasting different music. It was just sad tbh. I'd always thought it was a proper, organised event.

Fullmoon was always a pain in the ass, lots of drunken farangs.
I'd preferred Halfmoon or Blackmoon or the afterparties, much more relaxed and better music!

Never been to one, in all my years in Thailand. If I want loud music and booze, I go to a nightclub. When I go to a beach, I want peace and quiet. I guess I simply don't get the concept, or it just isn't for me.

the 93 party looks great. not sure it would ever have really been my scene, but obviously that was the time to go. not too busy and everyone there having a great time. great video.

man i don't even know who went to thailand back then. i'd never heard of people going to thailand until years later. guess some did though and good for them.

The only time I've been to Koh Phangnan, in 2013, it was carefully planned to avoid the FMP dates

Had a day/night in Had Rin, where I realised virtually all the clothes sold in the market stalls were fluorescent

I have absolutely no interest at all in wearing fluorescent shorts/vets, & covering myself in fluorescent paint, whilst drinking bucketfuls of mixtures of unknown alcohol on a very crowded noisy beach full of mainly daft kids

i went twice in 2013, always stayed on the quieter Haad Yao side of the island,
the full moon parties were alright for what they were, i used to go to a lot of festivals in the UK and Europe so wasnt nothing i wasnt used to, just that it was on a beach, but done it now, never really bothered me to travel down there to go to any more
