Thai police visiting foreigners at home, asking for yet more personal info

Thaivisa.com has received three reports that foreigners living in Chiang Mai are being visited at home by police and asked to disclose personal information such as their monthly income, height, weight and even skin colour.

immigration-form-1 On Tuesday, three separate accounts were posted to the Thaivisa forum by members who claimed they were visited at their homes in Chiang Mai by a plain closed police officer and asked to complete the ‘Personal Information’ form from the ‘Transnational Crime Coordination Unit Region 5 (TCCU R5).

The form requests such information as name and address but also asks for monthly income, parents nationality and current address, name of husband or wife and the date of marriage, as well as the names and dates of birth of any children.

In a section titled ‘Personal Appearance’ the form also asks for details of height, weight, skin colour, hair colour and details of any scars.

A Thaivisa user by the name of Thakkar reported that the officer, who did formally identify himself, had a list of names which included passport numbers and addresses of foreigners in the area.

A follow up call to police confirmed that officers are “checking up on all foreigners in the area”...

yup my friends in Chiang mai were telling me about this the other day!

Local cop here visited me to update residency forms.
Saw my commercial oven, and told me it was illegal to manufacture drugs.

So Far ONLY reported about in Chiang mai,which is known to have an over zealous immigration office.

I've been telling people to leave the Circus Formerly Known as Thailand (CFKT) for two years plus since the coup of 2014. Most won't listen, "business as usual", they say. Others actually actually want to be there for the historical moment. Either way, they're currently sitting around watching the kingdom fall apart bit by bit and devolve a little more every day.

Most likely, the point of this kind of data collection is to facilitate the round-up when the internment camps open.

Since I got my annual extension of stay based on retirement this year I find living here is a breeze immigration wise. Jomtien immigration is a 10 minute walk down the road, the 90 day report is basically a walk in/walk out 2 minute exercise and a re-entry permit took me 20 minutes. There was a personal information form that appeared a few months ago that was obviously a knee-jerk in relation to the bombing in Bangkok but I've never been asked for it. I have a fair degree of sympathy for the immigration staff when you observe the number of clueless customers they have to deal with.

I'm not holding my breath for a knock on the door based on a few random cases in Chiang Mai.
