Not new Soi Dog, this is the date the previously announced enforcement on multiple back to back visa exempt entrants is due to start. The last time I did a border visa run a couple of years ago. I was surprised how many Philipinos were around, so presumably with the announcement above they may be a sizeable contingent who will face problems. Would I be wrong in assuming they are mainly working.

Swedish guy on Thai visa today posted he'd been denied a Tourist visa at Thai embassy in Singapore because of too many entries in the last 6 months. It will be interesting to see how many people are affected come August 12th.

It will be more interesting to see how the Thai educational system fills the void of English teachers so abruptly cut off from returning, as they have been doing this visa run for years. I assumed those masses of filipinas at the Vientiane Thai Embassy were English teachers. I suppose some could be nurses...but that doesn't bode well either.

Could be a shortage of musicians as well. I'm in Pattaya and I think the demographic, ( non Filipino ), there is mainly long stay non working residents who haven't the resources or desire to be bothered with a retirement visa or trip home for a non-immigrant or multiple entry tourist visa. Perhaps a sizeable contingent of illegal Russian and Korean tour business employees now possibly.

I think it's good the Phillipines embassy is being pro-active in making its citizens aware of potential problems because I can foresee a situation where individuals are stuck in other countries unable to re-enter with little resources or personal belongings. Once happened to an Italian on our minibus and he was left stranded at the Cambodian side with more or less the clothes on his back and whatever was in his wallet, how the hell he got out of that situation I don't know as he'd have had to make his way to PP. Couldn't believe the "5 star" visa service we were with let him do the. Run in the first place.

The bulk of teachers I guess are mainly Bangkok based.

I was under the impression that you would be given a one time, 7 day visa only when denied another full tourist visa...enough time to go get your possessions and leave the country properly. No one takes all their stuff with them on a visa run. Life is soon to become very difficult for many people. The uninformed, as CC mentioned, will be truly fucked.

And as I mention above OD the lucky ones will be those aware of the situation who knowingly relocate and not those who don't realise of the clampdown and are marooned at the border. I honestly think there will be quite a few people caught out through ignorance or stupidity.

Wasn't aware of that but it makes good sense and clearly indicates they realise they could be dealing with a large number of chancers/fuckwits. Interesting when you think of it because that raises another possibility, I wonder how many when given 7 days to clear out will disappear off the radar in country and risk a permaban when caught. How do they cover that angle.

I have a slightly personal stake in this because being just under 50 I now get a double entry tourist visa from the UK for a 6 month trip, but last 6 months involved 1 month on visa exempt from Uk, 4 months in Cambodia & 1 month on visa exempt before returning to the UK. I don't perceive a problem but am glad the enforcement will have run a couple of months before my scheduled return to see how it is practically being applied.

to many school employ farang teachers yet will not give them the paperwork so they can get the correct visa yet tell them its ok to work.

Thailand will lose out when ASEAN comes around cause so many of the population cant speak English

already they have stopped issuing 1 year ed visa and only 6 months an have have to do a sort of conversation to get the next 6 months.
to many people with 2 years in a learning thai for an ed visa cant string together "how are you" an "where do you live?"

There was a post on somewhere that someone made that he had a 1 year ed visa an when he arrived the immigration asked him ( in thai) what he was studying an he had no idea what the immigration was asking, Visa cancelled., bye Bye!!! He was upset cause he said he had a visa what a joke

Visa does not guarantee admission to a country.
