Dedicated to Vlad

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

Dedicated to Vlad

Post by ali baba »

I've never been a fan of Vlad's posting style. Puns can get pretty annoying after a while and he spreads himself too thin. He should save them up and tie them together in an epic monologue.

For example here is a comment on the economist that follows an article about online porn;

I am sure that someone will think of something to inflate the flaccid subscription revenues, allowing the porn industry to stand erect despite the beating it has been getting. New ideas in the area should stimulate sales, and properly timed investment, which take advantage of rhythmic changes in the economy, should be a useful lubricant to penetrating markets that have been heretofore untouched.

I lost count of how many puns were in there (8?). It starts out by mildly titilating my funny bone and builds to an exciting climax.

Business news is often rich in puns. Some have become ciche- airlines always 'take off' or 'hit turbulence'- but there's still alot of creativity there.

The rest of this thread is dedicated to Vlad and Gary Crabtree and should be treated as a repository of the wittiest most jaw dropping puns known to man!
Scarier than malaria.

As a dedicated football fan my favourite and most well known one from back home was punned by a sports journalist for The Sun. Inverness Caledonian Thistle shocked Celtic with a 3-1 win in a Scottish cup game and it resulted in the headline

" Super Caley go ballistic Celtic are atrocious "
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.

Great idea ali baba and maybe we should all take turns writing a line each. Let me start and get the ball rolling on "The Sad Story of Young Vladimar".

I found that comment to the Economist's article to be trying waaaa~y too hard from the onset with easy puns. It feels forced and loaded, pretty much like spouting all lame pick-up lines in one go.
I prefer intelligently crafted puns that need a little bit of thinking and get you to either laugh or blush once you realize it.

But since it's a thread dedicated to Vlad and by extension Garry, I shall come back with a florilege of my personal favorites from both of them.

Nice use of florilège there, Joon.

I think I want a "pun-off" between vlad and crabtree on particular themes thrown in this thread.

I'm up for it, but I'm useless at competitions. I once entered an erection contest but lost as I only got through to the semis.
