Hi all,
So I'm a clueless on this subject and I'm sure there's many exceptions, but I get the impression that's how it works alot of the time. Atleast that's what my mate was telling me when he was asking why I'm single. So I guess im curious because I'm ignorant on the subject.
Also there's things like restaurant bills and transport etc...Is the guy paying for all that on top?.
I'm sure a guys age and looks and her age and looks play a factor.
But I'm just curious how it works and how the discussion happens. Is it a haggle for the final monthly amount?, how does each guy know what is considered the normal amount others are paying?.
What type of monthly payment would be average in these arrangements?. Or are all these hot young ladies just happy to have an old barang boyfriend with no monetary compensation?.

Depends. If she's a 10 and he's a 3, A LOT.

OK that was pretty funny

U gotta take into consideration peeps get paid anywhere from 180-300 bucks a month... They do not have the disposable income like foreigners so hangin out wth yah will cost them a lot.. e.g. they buy a steak din its gonna cost them 10% of their monthly wage...

I wouldnt pay a monthly stipend if the company sucks or you're not serious... If u r then a reasonable amount within your budget, maybe 10% or watever you're comfortable with

Anyone that flat-out asked for a monthly 'basic' just for being your girlfriend should be avoided.

They will find ways of extracting money from you; from blatant asks like "can you help me with $100 for my" [insert any reason here] or it might be a little more subtle like bringing their friends to dinner with you. It may be even an aunt & uncle. On this front, once they think they can bring along some greedy old pigs who stuff their faces knowing you will pay, exit visas are imminent.

You'll be paying for absolutely everything from booze, dinners, shopping, transport, holidays and clothes shopping (you'll just give them $50, it's much less painful than actually going shopping with them). If all this isn't enough, they can bugger off.

I'm ignorant on this subject as well - totally clueless but nevertheless, like you, curious too. So I asked a mate about it who at the time was talking about something else entirely different and I said, how much do you have to pay a girlfriend? He said you don't pay her unless she is a prostitute, then you can get one for $20 near Wat Phnom. I said, but what about restaurant bills and transport etc, do I need to haggle and what are others paying, I mean what is average in these situations? He said, well, you are an old and ugly barang and these ladies are young and hot, but it's still $20.

I’ve never paid, but Ive surely spent enough. She’s never had an allowance from me, but of course she stays with me and travels with me and I pay for everything when that happens and her food choices are not cheap, but even if I give her some spending money when we’re on a trip she still brings things to the counter for me to pay for and keeps the money firmly in her pocket. I bought lands in her name ive bought vehicles she has extensive dental work, and some creature comforts, like appliances and air-conditioning. If that isn’t enough, the cost for me just to move my own frame, too and fro would put it over the top. In spite of all of that I think I’ve spent less on her than any other girlfriend I ever had in the west the balancing factor being the things we buy are a lot cheaper. And she give back so much that it’s worth it for me.

If you have to put your lady on some kind of allowance or payroll, she’s not a real girlfriend although every relationship is gonna cost you some thing no matter where it is no matter who it is everyone is there to get a benefit the world over.

Strangely enough, although I really detest shopping I really enjoy shopping with her for clothes because if I send her alone she comes back with ridiculous outfits I don’t want to see her in and yet when I reach into the pile for things that she would’ve never discovered she finds a lot of delight in those items and we both get what we want. She gets something she likes and I get to dress her the way I like.

Not Khmer girlfriends, but Khmer wives in the west get ‘allowances’ from their a Khmer husbands of 5-10K a month, so missus tells me. Otherwise, they get a job to make the 10K a month tor themselves on personal spending.

In Cambodia, the women usually controls the money and gives her husband an allowance - either per day or per week.

I said no to either. Our money is shared. She has no need for an allowance. She knows where the money is and takes what she needs to for shopping. The big stuff - buying airplane ticket back to Cambodia, transferring funds to her ABA account, I handle.

Are you talking about an actual girlfriend? I didn't think so. So the question should be "What's the cheapest price I can pay a prostitute to put up with my sorry-ass for more than five minutes?" How much ice can you afford?
