Seems speakeasy over there is OK if you're part of the clique!

I got BANNED today for trying to post the contents of a PM (below) from Scobi to me for all to see. Not only was this removed along with all user comments but I got a ban.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've had my fair share of personal attacks on here over the last few years including from Scobi. LL alone sees it as a sport. But when I hint at the same this is what happens.... PM from Scobi to me.

You tried posting a PM. You were banned, rightfully so.

We also don't allow it. I assume your ban isn't permanent?

We'll let the thread stay, but I edited out the PM (no, you're not banned, LoL, but now you know).

A couple of points because I followed the thread :

1) Isn't the purpose of private mails exactly that. Part of my initial reason at joining here originally was because there seemed to be a question mark over previous management divulging content of private mail, it added to my discontent at the time.

However

2) Having seen the content of the private mail you received and posted before it was deleted amused and slightly concerns me. Your comment that instigated the PM was the exact same that a well placed poster made to me after a question I asked on a separate thread. I'm left wondering whether his comment received a similar PM from admin. It wasn't a big issue at the time for me but Insee it in a different light from what has just happened to you. If not is it because of his position or the fact that you were taking a view against the group norm. Have you rocked the boat by not attacking Splinter like everyone else and stating a reality that sits uncomfortably for some reason with others.

It's certainly got me thinking a bit, as much as these things matter in the grand scheme of things. Food for thought.

I presume you've been banned for sharing the contents of a private email and unfortunately that I agree with even though I agreed with some of your sentiments in your very original post. I actually thought Splinter's post was one of the funniest and best for a long time, his views on the infrastructure are reality. I know he's wound people up, he took it in return, and came back with a good post albeit a bit personal.

I'm replying on here because Red Dragon is apparently banned over there if anyone misunderstands.

Well that failed spectacularly, didn't it red dragon?

For the record he was banned for:

1) copying a PM into a thread, and
2) compounding it by starting a second thread by copying the same PM again.

I suspect any forum would do the same. It seems the consensus here supports that view.

The ban isn't permanent. It was initially for one month, but I have been persuaded that was too harsh and it has been reduced to a week.

I was actually going to post that I liked it but unfortunately I was getting the vibe agreeing with him might incur the wrath of the pack and decided against it. He hit the nail on the head in many respects. Red Dragon did and I saw nothing specifically personal about his post, no more so than a lot of what is said. Just my perception and how I saw it and I'm sure others will have a completely different view.

This brings up a good point though, and should help show why we're not huge fans of CEO members black balling other CEO members (although it was a great idea brought up by Frank).

Seems a few people over here are expressing that they agreed with Splinter over on K440, BUT were discouraged from posting that over there because they assumed that they would be treated badly for going against the "thinking man's circle jerk" clique that exists amongst the admin and long time posters there.

That's exactly what we want to avoid on CEO. I hate the idea of someone not posting something on a discussion forum that goes against the powers that be/majority because they feel they will be treated badly because of their opinion/post.

It's obviously a hard call sometimes when deciding to ban members, but I lean towards being a little more lenient. Vicious trolls are obviously bad, but it's important to make sure that members who don't agree with the majority of others feels safe participating without the fear of being banned, outed, ganged up on, etc.

And a month ban seemed pretty harsh, but I'm glad to see you come to your senses a bit through persuasion from others.
