That's interesting that you act broke. That's never going to win you any popularity contests. I don't think anybody cares that much but you should try to be a bit nicer and more positive.
Nobody cares if you have a lot of money or not (because there are plenty of people nearby who have more than you'll ever dream of), but when you start acting miserable and being nasty that all gets picked up and thrown back at you.
I think you may need to work on your approach dude. Try and smile?
