Battambang to Host 6th River Festival Next Year

Battambang province will host Cambodia’s 6th River Festival in March next year, according to senior tourism official.

H.E. Pak Sokhom, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Tourism unveiled the plan during a recent preparation meeting with the provincial governor and competent authorities at Battambang.

As planned, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HE and his spouse will preside over the historical celebration.

The River Festival, underlined H.E. Pak Sokhom, covers three main events – tree planting, Khmer and foreign product exhibition, and sports.

On behalf of Battambang’s authorities and people, Governor H.E. Nguon Ratanak expressed his profound appreciation of the decision of the government to choose the province for the festival.

The first River Festival was organised in Kratie in 2015, followed by the second in Kampong Cham, third in Stung Treng, fourth in Takhmao town of Kandal, and firth (sic) in Kampong Chhnang.

I was in Kampot before the sea festival, and they fixed up a few roads and the riverfront, and tidied up the town like it was Chinese New Year. The PM was invited so on his route there were zero potholes.
So, if all goes well, you might get some roads sealed, and they will clean up the riverfront for sure.

Battambang Province Preparing to Host This Year’s River Festival

Battambang, a northwestern province of Cambodia, has been preparing itself to host the annual River Festival scheduled to take place on Mar. 13-15, 2020.

At a preparatory meeting with the provincial authorities held recently in the Battambang provincial city, H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, was positive that the event will further promote tourism movement and products in the province as well as Cambodia.

Key activities planned include the efforts to promote cultural and tourist attractions and showcase local products, especially to improve the quality of tourism services in province.

The minister urged concerned provincial authorities to also look into plastic-free alternatives in their initiatives, particularly for food and beverage services.

The middle of March is just over 1 month away and the works along the river front have a long way to go yet. Whats not done before will just get forgotten about afterward I would guess

By the Festival will there be any water in the river?

Cambodia News, (Battambang): The 6th River Festival kicks off today. It will be held in Battambang over three days from March 13-15, 2020, under the theme of "River of Peace, River of Prosperity".


A large number of people, especially those in Battambang, expressed concern that the event could be postponed or canceled due to fears of the coronavirus pandemic, but never fear, it has been confirmed that Samdech Techo HE and His Excellency Samdech Kittiphea will preside over the grand ceremony on March 14, 2020, as scheduled.
On 12 March, a ceremony was held on the Sangkae river to bless the festival and the participants.

Cambodia News, Battambang: On the morning of March 14, 2020, in celebration of the 6th river festival in Battambang, the second day of the river festival organized a "Sport Run" under the presidency of Secretary of State Vath Chamroeun.
Mr. Kham Hamad, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, and Deputy Governor of Battambang Province, attended the event which had nearly 2,000 people participating.


A good time was had by all.
