Cambodia Aiming for World Record Long Asian Canoe

Cambodia is constructing what they call "the world's longest boat", but will in fact be the world's longest canoe.
Today, 6 July, Mr. HUN Many checked the production of the longest boat which will break the world record. The canoe, which is now 80% completed, at 85.5 meters, will be the world's longest.


If all goes according to plan, the construction will be completed in August, when the Guiness World Record committee will visit Cambodia to evaluate if the boat fulfills the criteria to become the world record holder.
At present, the world record is held by a Chinese boat which was built in 2017 and is 77,8-meters-long.

In April 2018, 6 "Koki" trees were delivered to Prey Veng for the construction of the canoe.


The Koki tree, or Albizia lebbeck, is also called Woman's Tongue because of its seed pods.

The canoe will be able to carry 179 people, but they estimate that 1000 people will be needed to move it to the water, once construction is completed.

As the boat nears completion, workmen are flat out, trying to get it finished for the date of 29 July. Coincidentally, the 29th is also election day.

Phnom Penh: Se Sokha, chairman of the Boat Manufacturers Commission said that the record-breaking ceremony, with the participation of Guinness World Records, would be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2018 in the eastern town of Yeung Cheay, located in Prek Khay commune, Peam district, Prey Veng province.
At the same time, Mr Sokha would like to invite parents, young men, and young women throughout the Kingdom of Cambodia to attend the event.
