Starting seeds

Post by mammothboy2 »

This is by no means infallible. My Bulgarian acorns turned to black rotting mush; check what arent gardeners
have put on YOUTUBE.

Ideally, one works with distilled water and sterilized potting compost

=1= date seeds and other seeds (old or new, fresh or from fridge/freezer) - allow
them to thaw if they are really cold ... put into lukewarm (NOT really hot) water for 2 to 4 hours

=2= Then to a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide / water for 2 to 4 hours

= 3 = Then to a 2.5% liquid plant food // 2 tablespoons dissolved sugar in water for
12 hours

= 4 = Then in damp paper towels / cotton / flannel in tupperware / plastic sandwich boxes
until the successful seeds have sprouted (7days up to a month or more; some date stones
are very late entrants)

= 5 = Then carefully planting in STERILE (if available)
potting compost, ideally in peat pots

= 6 = Plant eventually into the soil in their peat pots
- with plant hormones to stimulate rooting and give them a good enzymatic fertilizer.

MMboy2, I've been following your posts with great interest. I gave up trying to plant non-native plants years ago. The only exception is a limited number of vegetables. I found that if I could get them started and planted, disease killed them. I do wish you luck and patience.

Please list the 'Western' vegetables which do well here (are you high above sea level, are you
planting in local soil etc.,) and we will all be wiser.

I have never tried checking, but I assume that Bangkok or Saigon would offer an immense variety of
Cambodia-compatible seeds in seed markets,

Are you growing in simple local soil or are you using compost etc., ?

There is the HAPPY HORSE RANCH in SR, where one pays a modest sum a tip - to shovel up and
take away as much horse poo
as anyone with a small garden could need.

The soil is carefully amended, there is more than enough shit on my rural property-no need to go to SR. I have not planted this year because of drought conditions so I will probably plant only natives.

As of today, Lucky Mall supermarket in SR has Israeli dates at $24/kilo

Jut over half a kilo has been bought, seeds will be treated carefully and planted. A bulletin will be issued in due course.
