Raising ducks and geese

Does anyone have any experience raising ducks and geese in Cambodia? I've just gotten a few as pets and am trying to learn more about what the local breeds are (are they all crossbreeds?) and what the best diet is for them. The local feed stores have very cheap feed, but I suspect it's not particularly healthy because it's so low-grade. Also, they advise you to feed your poultry a preventative dose of antibiotics for their first month, which I think should only be necessary if they are living in unhealthy conditions. We've been feeding ours home-made feed and veggies and they seem to love it. If anyone has any experience with poultry in Cambodia I'd love to hear more.

OD is a bit of a goose. Maybe ask his wife what she feeds him?

Hello! And welcome to the forum!

I don't know nothing about raising feathered friends, but you absolutely must post some pictures of them here on this thread! They are cute nas!

How are the ducks and geese getting along with each other? Do they even know that they aren't the same species? Image

Don't forget the pics! !

Be careful with the geese. They're really cantankerous. Strangely enough, their obsession with honking makes them good guard animals.

So I've heard. I figure having a guard animal is not a bad idea, it might keep the neighbors from thinking of our ducks as a potential dinner.

^ that would be a concern. The ducks are expensive, aren't they?
If you don't mind me asking, are you raising them to eventually eat or for eggs?

We're just raising them for eggs. We just sort of ended up with all of them accidentally, but they are very sweet pets. Although they cry all of the time when they can't see us because they think we are the parent geese.

awww that is so cute. You can probably get a cat to be mother figure for them
How do you end up with a bunch of ducklings and geese accidentally? :)
