Model Safe Vegetable Centre to Improve Quality in Cambodia
Model Safe Vegetable Centre Officially Opened
AKP Phnom Penh, December 31, 2021 --
A model safe vegetable development and partnership has been established to boost Good Agricultural Practices in Cambodia (CamGAP).
The inauguration of the centre took place on Dec. 30 at Banteay Dek agricultural experiment station in Kandal province under the presidency of H.E. Veng Sakhon, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
Representatives from agricultural product suppliers, chefs, restaurants, and hotel associations, Cambodia Rice Federation, technical firms, banks and partnership projects like Harvest II, ASPIRE, Chain, BFP, AIMS, CAVAC joined the event.
H.E. Veng Sakhon spoke highly of the achievement, adding that it will help increase high-quality vegetables for the local market supply.
It is well aligned with the “State-Private-Development Partners and Communities” to increase productivity, and agricultural diversification and commercialisation in Cambodia.
The minister also underlined the ministry's efforts in encouraging farmers to produce safe vegetables in order to reduce vegetable imports and to meet domestic demand.
Moreover, he encouraged the private sector to further invest in horticulture, especially in safe vegetable crop value chains to promote the development of Cambodia's agriculture.
As of December 2021, Cambodia has 1,217 agricultural communities, and 15 registered agricultural community unions.
