My rooster problem

I think I posted previously about a disabled chicken that ended up in our yard. He can't walk correctly and sort of limps around and was getting beaten up in our neighbor's yard pretty badly by his sisters. He crawled under our gate a few months ago and ended up staying. Now he's too big to get out from under the gate even if he wanted to. The problem is, since then he's turned into a rooster. Like, a serious rooster. He hobbles over to the duck's food bowl and attacks them if they try and eat out of it. He starts crowing at 5:30am, today twenty or thirty times in the last hour. I was already worried about the noise the geese were making would bother our landlord, but the rooster is taking the situation to a whole other decibel level.

Yesterday I told me finance that I was going to kill the rooster. He said that the rooster was a de facto pet, so I couldn't kill it. He was quite adamant about it. But today, after the crowing marathon, he's on board. I don't think I can actually do it, though. Help.

Wouldn't the neighbor want him back?

I don't think so. They pointed at him a month ago and laughed and shrugged, which I thought meant "not our problem." He's pretty messed up looking, I'm not sure if that would make them not want to eat him or not.

I've never really talked to the neighbors on that side, and don't actually know who he would belong to, but it's probably worth finding out.

I don't know the word for rooster, but I marched over and said "I not want your boy chicken" and handed it to them in a bucket. Unfortunately their garden is closer to my bedroom window than mine is, so if they do keep him it's going to be even louder.

I could have added a few duck eggs, I've been handing them out all over the neighborhood trying to generate goodwill.

Rooster is next door, crowing at this moment.

There is a way to stop a cock crowing.

Some think it cruel, but it is effective.

Look it up.

You can always use serious whiskey the night before, and nothing will wake you up.

Best way to stop a rooster crowing (other than eating it) is to cage it at night in a cage in which it can stand upright, but only just. A bit hard now that you've evicted it.
