Possibly the Most Horrific Details of Arranged Marriages From a Khmer Rouge Survivor That I've Read

Post by General Mackevili »

Not a very pleasant read. 62 year old survivor of the Khmer Rouge, Chan Phay, talks about the horrific treatment she received during Pol Pot's reign.

Here is her testimony:

"...The next day, a Khmer Rouge officer called Pao ordered one if his subordinates – he was called Pol – to take me to marry him at 9 pm at a Chinese school in Pursat province. There, they had organized twelve couples to be married. When it was my turn, I refused and declared that I was already married. Pol brought me to a pagoda, and chained, bit and undressed me. He kissed, touched and squeezed all my private parts. He inserted my anus and vagina with bullets and beat me up until I lost consciousness. When I woke up, it was about 9 am...

...During the daytime, young guards of around 15, 16, 17 years old came ‘to play’ with my private parts including breasts, buttocks and cheeks, and they beat me until I finally lost consciousness. During the nighttime, Pao came. When I woke up, I saw Pao sleeping next to me in his underwear. I frequently woke up. I had no energy. My head was tense and I was confused about what had happened to me. I didn’t know what they had done to me when I had passed out. When I regained my consciousness, I realized that I was bleeding and smelled very strongly like dead fish. They did this to me every day...

Yes and you also walk past those who traumatized them and knowing that such inhumanity goes unpunished is sad too.

Judging by the age of most cadres, I'm surprised there aren't more reports of sexual abuse. A world where parent-less teens had practically absolute power and where they were encouraged to betray each other.

Anyone around 50 either saw some shit or caused some shit. I often think about this when I go to events - who were the "goodies" and who were the "baddies?"

^^ rozzie, you should watch some of John Pilgers documentaries on Youtube from 79, 80, and beyond to see what it was like.

You're right about anyone around 50, but also, anyone that was just a kid, a teenager or a young adult, in the 70s 80s or even 90s, have grown up not knowing what parenting is about because they didn't have any or they lost contact at some point.
The legacy continues. And will for some decades to come.

"Anyone around 50" would have been around 9 years old in 1975, so I'm not sure I get your point. Contrary to what you might think, most Cambodians were not combatants during the Pol Pot regime. Many from that age group that I know did serve in the police or military in the late 80s- early 90s, but certainly not all.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
