Does anyone know where I can find either a used or readable Vietnamese pirated edition of this book? I am curious where the author's views and mine overlap or diverge. Other suggestions concerning Khmer politics are welcome, but I will probably have read most of them already. Thank you in advance.

Also, in my opinion Cambodians need to re-evaluate their historical hand me down culture which does not mean blindly following Western values,but adopting that which is suitable for their modern life

Just a guess, but I'm sure you could get a copy from the mobile booksellers on the riverside.

Thanks UT, it's a 3-4 hour bus trip, but it may be my best shot.

Don't bother, it's a terrible book. It's really badly written and jumps all over the place, and is riddled with errors.

Thanks for the friendly warning but I've read some negative reviews already and I accept that there will be errors. Has anyone written a historical review from that UNTAC times and post election that is free from errors?

I am especially interested im this book because blame is laid not only at the feet of foreigners and Khmer krahom, but also former king Sihanouk and the culture in general. I certainly don't anticipate believing all his claims but I have lived for almost 20 years rurally and have a decent grasp of the current reality. If nothing else it will be a relief to read an opus devoid of politically correct white guilt.

That book is on sale at the riverside sidewalk book sellers. The lady, a longtime friend of mine quoted $8, and I was not prepared to bargain with her , as she, like most heads of the household has a family to support, and another one on the way.

No need to travel to PP for it, as there is bound to be a car that travels from your village that can pick it up. ? Just yell out if you need help.

Duncan, I thank you.also for the suggestion but it does me a world of good to get out of the village once in a while-especially in dry season. The book seller need have no fear:I expect a slightly higher than reasonable mark-up. It's the condition of the pirated edition that concerns me.

If you're referring to the second-hand shop across from Dolphin, it's gone. It's another mini-mart or hostess bar -- I forget.
