WARNING - Turn Off Your Phone

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. WARNING - Turn Off Your Phone

Post by Username Taken »

The wife got a phone call last night around 10 o'clock from her brother. Important, urgent information.
He claims he just saw/heard on TV that due to the cold weather, people are advised to turn off their phones as the cold weather can burn out the phone.

Of course, my wife dutifully turned her phone off.

There is merit behind the argument.

The battery can seize up in cold weather making it impossible to charge and power the phone, however this is in sub 0 temperature which we aren't having here.

I suppose I should start suggesting that people start winterizing their motorbikes too?

That's another one that always makes me laugh.

You cannot answer a phone during a thunderstorm or you will be struck by lightning.

my gh had the same call from her mum
she said everyone in Japan was turning there phones off but couldn't tell me why , but "youll die"! :Yahoo!:

she is also convinced about the plugging phone in whilst a thunderstorm is on! (although I know if one instant where a boy was electrocuted, in russia I think) , youre more likely to walk into a lamppost when on your phone

honestly these people are so gullible , and bktcrapper

My girlfriend's kids thought the world was coming to an end because of the cold. I tried to explain to them that where my brother lives, temperatures regularly drop to -45 Celsius and they still use phones.....

^^As I say, you haven't experienced cold until you put things in the refrigerator to prevent them from freezing on the dinner table.
