Price and brand for a good seviceable moto

What's a reasonable price for a solid used moto that won't break. Wadaya think of the Honda Scobee[sp,?]

personally i hate those auto bikes and prefer a semi auto like honda dream/wave

Dollar for dollar, parts wise, Scoopies are about 10-12 times more expensive to service than semi auto bikes (manual shift) like Daelims.

i.e. Scoopy clutch $47, Daelim $3.50
Scoopy fuel system (pump, filter, injector) $140-180, Daelim carburetor $15
Scoopy drive belt, weights, rollers, guides $90, Daelim chain $6

However, this is largely the parts cost. There's no telling what the mechanic is going to try and gouge you for with either bike.

Personally I would get a Honda Super Cub that is just imported from Japan. Electric start newer version 90s are around $1,500 (non e-start $1,200) sometimes a few hundred more, and older versions are a few hundred less. You wont find a more reliable and easier to service bike though, take my word for it.

Suzuki lets over the scoopy in autos, i'd say. Mrs has had one for over a year without issues, and hundreds cheaper new.

Spend a few hundred more and always buy new imo. Suzuki world after service has always been good, bought 3 new bikes and get free small servicing and sometimes free oil/filter changes on them nearly 2 years after on my smash v.

Honda maybe the same, but the fam always get suzukis (viva, smash v, revo and lets) from suzuki world and are happy with them.

WAY passed the mark already, last I saw it was sitting at 178,000, still on it's original gearbox but looking very sorry for itself. Top end was done around 114,000, not sure if I did the crank. It's been almost 5 years... I miss that bike.

^^Wave 125s are almost $2,000 vs. $1,200, I know you didn't say anything about it being $1,200, but I wanted to clarify that there are two very different Waves on the market, the 125 beings the most expensive, followed by the 110 and 100 ($1,500 ish to $1,200 ish)

The $1,200 Wave I think is excellent value for the money (in Cambodia) regarding a trouble free bike for a 30-40k period or 3-5 years ish for the most part. My opinion is though, after having taken many of them apart and run both Cubs and Waves for business is that the Waves (and indeed most Thai / Viet built bikes) are not up to the same longevity standards as the Japanese market bikes. Not surprising, Viet Waves and Dreams are $750 new (110's are $850-900) and Japanese market Super Cubs start at $2,200 with models approaching $3,000. Sure the Japanese have higher markup and high manufacturing costs, but I've never seen a Thai/Viet bike make it half as far and take half the abuse that I've seen Japanese bikes take and keep going.

Either or, I guess it's up to the buyer. I personally like things that are ridiculously overbuilt that last longer than they need to, but the Wave 100 is a great bike for the money, especially considering Cambodias poor understanding of maintenance, so the value of getting a new untouched bike shouldn't be underestimated.

My wife and I drive a Honda Cub that is over 20 years old(second motor-rebuilt) It has had only a few minor mechanical problems. Of course the owner must be willing to.suffer a few sneers from Cambodians who feel that a Moto should reflect social status rather than a sound mechanical decision. I have seen many.in our rural area that must be even older. It's got a small engine, but is a real workhorse.
