Lowlife scumbags at cham yeam border

Post by bkktrapper »

Crossed from trat to koh kong today via cham yeam for the first time in a year, Those taxis drivers are real nasty pieces of work and the wannabe immigration "helpers " have become pushy as ever he wanted a 200 naht tip for walking me to the fake quarantine.

Snake coppers charged me 35 usd then 200 baht on top for not having a "licence" on a E-type business visa.

Then the taxis wanting 1500 baht to go direct to snooky in a beat up old camry full of stinky french and german trashpackers, When i denied the offer and turned my back he yelled at me trying to start a fight.

Careful on the koh kong border the Khmers hangin round there are a bunch of low life scum and its worsening year to year.

Advise for crossing the cham yeam border is.
Dont talk to the helpers and taxis they are tricky fuckers.
Have lots of 1, 5 and 10 USD bills for immigration.
Grab a moto dop from opposite the casino to koh kong for 3 usd or 100 baht.

I had zero problem crossing with my car last month. Paid 30 for visa and 100 baht/day to drive the car in. Did have to tip customs 100 baht to raise the pole

I had to do this trip just last month to help a friend out in Bangkok for a couple days. Highlander taxi for us two from Shv to the border was 40$, no need for bribes to get out, and then minibus to Trat then one to Bangkok. Came back alone, gave 1000r to the khmer guy to fill out the paper, he bitched and I told him in Khmer he should of stated his price before then,no need to apply for visa, negotiated private taxi to Shv for 35$, and then five minutes out of Koh Kong the driver asks me if he can go back to pick up four more backpackers in KK, so we negotiated my front seat price down to 15$ (couldn't go lower as the fixer had taken 5$ from him already which I knew), and we picked up the backpackers who paid 10$ each for four of them squeezed in the back (of which the fixer took 10k riel each). Driver couldn't speak a lick of english so this was all done in khmer, in the end the fixers got 15$ and the driver 40$ for his troubles. Was all a breeze, took an extra twenty minutes but saved 20$.

i remember getting a shared Taxi Khmer style, there was 8 of us in this car, there were 2 people in the drivers seat! going from SHV to PP, cant beat the khmer minivans though going from kampong cham to PP there were 25 of us in a 11 seater van, plus 2 babies, everyones luggage and a motorbike, it was a good erm bonding experience lol
