Fair price for a tuk tuk or a moto ride

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Fair price for a tuk tuk or a moto ride

Post by nightmare.believer »

Please help me. I am trying to put together a guide so one may know if one is getting a fair price on either a tuk tuk or a moto ride. Please post what you feel is a fair price for a ride from point A to point B. Like this:

Wat Phnom to Independence monument: 3000 riel by moto, 6000 for a tuk tuk.

Garage bar to Martini: $1 for a moto.

Outside the main gate of the airport to the riverside: $5 by tuk tuk.

(Please try to keep this thread serious...just this one time ^^).

Wat Phnom to Independence monument: 3000 riel by moto, 6000 for a tuk tuk. Sounds right for the Moto, although possibly $1

Garage bar to Martini: $1 for a moto. Possibly a $1.50 at night

Outside the main gate of the airport to the riverside: $5 by tuk tuk. I pay $2 to Norodom on a Moto

Norodom to the Waterfront 2,000 riel on a moto

Where's Chbar Amphoul?

(BTW...are there any bridges over the Tongle Sap in PP that can be walked over?)

Tuktuks:

Sovanna market area to TTP - $2, either way
Sovanna market area to Riverside - $3, $4 in reverse

Dodge the organised tuktuk gangs around the Sovanna doors and pull one off the street, or be prepared to stand your ground.

Edit: also, ^ these guys play the "drive in the wrong direction and then try and charge you for extra distance" trick, so track your progress on Google Maps and pull them over if they're not heading in the right direction (allowing for local conditions) in the first minute.
