Swedish prosecutor says to drop Assange investigation
Swedish prosecutor says to drop Assange investigation
Last updated 21:16, May 19 2017
Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has lived in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London since 2012.
Swedish prosecutors said on Friday they would drop a preliminary investigation into an allegation of rape against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange on Friday, bringing to an end a 7-year legal stand-off.
"Chief Prosecutor Marianne Ny has today decided to discontinue the preliminary investigation regarding suspected rape concerning Julian Assange," the prosecutors office said in a statement.
Assange, 45, has lived in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London since 2012, after taking refuge there to avoid extradition to Sweden over the allegation of rape, which he denies.

Re: Swedish prosecutor says to drop Assange investigation
The Swedish women had agreed to have sex with Assange. That is certainly what they declared later on. Apparently, the women were disconcerted that Assange had had sex with them again in the morning without a condom. So, the case is about having sex without a condom. The problem with claiming "rape" after the facts, is that they had agreed to sex, only the evening before.kiwiincambodia wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2017 4:20 pm... regarding suspected rape concerning Julian Assange ...
The Swedish women could possibly have claimed damages, if Assange had transmitted a sexually-transmitted disease to them, which he apparently didn't. They could have claimed his assistance in raising the child, if he had made them pregnant; which was also not the case. In absence of any damage incurred by these Swedish women, we are looking at a storm in a cup of tea. Sweden has a specific law about "sex without a condom", but the UK does not have such law. In fact, few other countries have such Swedish invention on their books.
They should have dropped this ridiculous case 7 years ago already.
