Might Not Need a Tourist Visa for Vietnam (US/EU citizens)
This is pretty big news (if it actually happens)!
I will definitely be visiting more often if we don't require a troublesome/expensive visa every time we go over there for a long weekend.

While Vietnam may be shooting itself in the foot with work permit regulations, the country may take an important step forward when it comes to tourist visas.
TTR Weekly reports that tourism authorities are considering a recommendation from the Tourism Working Group on ways to increase tourism in Vietnam, starting with 14 – 30 day visa exemptions for visitors from EU countries, the United States, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
In addition, the group recommended the implementation of streamlined visa procedures and more visa-on-arrival facilities.
Vietnam currently allows visa exemptions for 17 countries:
-Citizens of Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Kyrgyzstan get a visa-free stay of up to 30 days.
-Citizens of the Philippines get 21 days.
-Citizens of Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Japan, and South Korea get 15 days.
-Citizens of Brunei and Myanmar for 14 days.
If the recommendation is adopted, it should go a long way towards boosting tourism numbers.

Re: Might Not Need a Visa for Vietnam if You're from US/EU/e
I definitely need to get SA to start a war in Vietnam so in the future I get a free visa. Long-term plan, but good one.
Jesus loves you...Mexico is great, right?

Yes! Having spent $60 for a three-day visit this week and blown another two passport pages (sticker and two stamps), I am definitely on the bandwagon for that privilege. Oh, and let's not forget how you will enjoy bypassing the agonizingly slow Viet immigration visa automatons.
Thanks for the tip General!

Any Aussies know whether you can get additional pages in your passport via the Oz embassy in PP?

Yes, sounds good. I will also definitely be visiting more often.
But, you just have to wonder why it has taken them so long to figure out something so simple.

Hoping that this will happen so I can visit more often.
Guessing it hasn't happened sooner because these countries make it quite difficult for Vietnamese to get visas to visit them. Looks like they are dropping the attempt at equal treatment in favor of bringing in more money.
