Monthly Budget in Cambodia 2025

In the recent thread TaBarang, the gentleman featured in the video claims a person can comfortably live in Cambodia on $1,000 a month. I've seen this kind of claim often - and in fact - the most popular videos on youtube are the monthly costs/budget videos. All the vloggers repeat and update these videos because they too see that its the ones people watch. So please, dont get annoyed with me for asking ...

Here's Ryan: He pays a lot on rent, but thats because his wifes job pays a huge allowance for housing that they enjoy. Thats the kind of anomaly to note.

I've noticed how some restaurants have almost doubled their prices over the last 5 years, there are some I will not visit anymore simply cause I can't stomach paying $5.50 for what used to be $3.

Maybe it was long overdue, maybe it's still a good price, maybe I'm just a grumpy old loser.

Just saying it ain't getting any cheaper living out here

Number of people X $300 = ? The variables are mouths to feed, home cooking, health insurance, rent, tuition.

Definitely more to be saved when sharing rent which is usually the most expensive thing.

You dont have to share - and I am not living in country now so my expenses are not relevant. But I will be soon, and in very different circumstances - legitemately retired so will want to make it on a fixed pension income.

I actually find cooking at home quite convenient - but living in the west its also a must for the economy of it all. But in that TaBarang video, the dude said he can do food for about $15 a day - then said thats $600/mo haha couldnt do the math on the spot. So thats $5X3 meals a day. I think I would budget $20 a day, knowing I would not spend that all the days and then some days may splurge a bit more.

Around $600/month for two persons, including one visa + work permit ($500 yearly, so $42/month). We own the house, no rent, and the closest western restaurant is 80 kilometers away, we usually cook at home or eat khmer food outside. I spend most of my free time in the garden ; when i was living in SR, i'd have spent it in bars and restaurants and the bill would have been different !

You can eat well for $20 a day, all western style good quality food. Or do more like street food and spend less than $10.

I mostly eat home cooked food but when you crave certain ingredients that aren't as common here it still adds up.

If you went on homemade rice and fish diet you could stretch a dollar for sure, and stay healthy.
