Re: CIA Official Arrested in Cambodia
sucks for him
A CIA official has been indicted on charges he violated the Espionage Act by disclosing classified U.S. documents about Israel’s preparations for a retaliatory strike against Iran for a missile attack earlier this year, according to court records and a source familiar with the charges.
Asif William Rahman was indicted Nov. 7 in federal court in Virginia on two counts of willful retention and transmission of national defense information.
Rahman was arrested Tuesday in Cambodia and brought to Guam to appear in federal court, according to court records. A initial court appearance was scheduled Thursday in Guam.
The indictment says Rahman gained access to a classified document marked “top secret” and “secure compartmented information” on Oct. 17 in Phnom Penh in Cambodia and delivered the document to someone who wasn’t entitled to receive it.

Re: CIA Official Arrested in Cambodia
Lesson learnt,,, never tell anyone that a terrorist has a a weapon and his plans to use it or you will be arrested.
Turn the page, there could be a different story on the other side.
Re: CIA Official Arrested in Cambodia
It's an interesting little story, but it poses more questions than it does provide answers.
Why was this information even available in Cambodia? It has little to do with this country so if they followed rule #1 - never share information unless you have to - why allow access here?
It sounds like Israel did not provide the US precise details of its strike plans in advance; the US had to interpret the information from spy satellites. Mossad/Israel clearly follows rule #1.
In any event, even with Iran having prior knowledge, they were incapable of stopping Israel causing them serious damage. Israel took out the air defences and early warning systems to their intended targets and then destroyed them at will - and they did it entirely unscathed. This has also cleared a preparatory path to Iran's oil installations too, should they need to return at a later date.
Iran's defences failed completely, and it is now even more vulnerable for the foreseeable future. And now everybody knows it.

The document dealing with Israel's strike, which circulated on the messaging app Telegram, appeared to have been prepared by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. It described U.S. interpretations of Israeli Air Force and Navy planning using satellite imagery from Oct. 15 and 16. Federal authorities investigated the leak.

Its kinda strange also in my book. The US government has a lot of people with secret or top secret clearance who have access to this sort of information. Probably they should make it available to less people. perhaps he worked at the embassy here? im not sureDoc67 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 9:43 am It's an interesting little story, but it poses more questions than it does provide answers.

Maybe (just maybe) someone with that name should never have been given classified information with regards to Israel anyway.

Is simply somebody with CIA creds who's attached to the embassy with a certain level of clearance having access to the same info that anybody with a terminal for whatever system they use globally has - &then going rouge with said info
In all likelihood he was suspected already and this was a trap to capture the rat in
