Road tax requirement?

Post by troelshartmann »

Just found out about a (new?) requirement to pay road tax with fines if not paid before the end of this month.

https://www.phnompenhpost.com/business/ ... gh-gdt-app

The app referred to in there is all in Khmer, so not much good to me.

Apparently can be paid at banks - ABA say I need 2 copies of a VT001 tax form. Is it just a case of downloading and filling this in?

https://www.ababank.com/en/tax-collection/

Anyone been through the process?

It has always been that way.

Just need car ID, previous tax paper, and passport. Go to any tax department of ACLEDA.

Traffic police are pretty hot on it the day after it is due, so best get it done ASAP - told the wife to sort ours last week; each year I think you can start to renew it throughout October/November. Note the sticker they give you is for the current year, so when you get one with 2024 on it don't panic, that is valid throughout 2025 until the whole process starts again. Personally prefer the UK method of putting the expiry date as the big date the police can see, but hey ho!

Thanks guys, just got it sorted at ABA.

Needed 2 copies of the VT001 form as well as equivalent of roadworthiness/MOT certificate (car is new so it came with it), passport and the car ID card.

When I bought my car it came with a white tax card, all I do is give that to the ACLEDA lot, no need for a roadworthy or anything else. I would imagine it is all linked so they can check though. If it is a new car I would guess it is in your name. Might be worth looking into that.

When I pay it comes up with the old owner (barang) but his name is not on the car ID card.

No I didn't get that. I got the equivalent of the roadworthiness certificate which has a 4 year expiry date, no tax certificate. I just downloaded the tax form from the ABA site and filled out and printed 2 copies. Most of the info needed was on the certificate.

The car and car ID is in my name.

Hardest part was during payment, trying to reproduce my signature to the satisfaction of the teller at ABA!

I thought new cars did not require a roadworthiness and they are every two years?
