From a high of $1.10 , now down to below .75. You would think that it would be worthwhile importing some products here to Cambodia. Even the items that are already imported have not dropped down in price.
Is the A. $$ going to go lower and for how long, cause I have this big lump under my mattress and it will stay there until I get more than just a few riel for it , or is there a bank here that will accept A $$ on term deposits.

Ditto - the value of our investment portfolio dropped about 28% while we were relocating. Now we must sit on it until the AUD recovers, or see that loss become real.

I'd expect to see the AUD end up at about 55 cents to 60 cents USD to $1 AUD. The currency's strength was based on exports of minerals to China and that cash cow is running out of milk - and because of Australia's location and wages; making stuff to export to the rest of the world is going to be too damned expensive for the country to compete.

There'll be the occasional upswing but the long-term projection for the AUD is that it will return to its lightweight value and that will lead to a huge tourism boost but not much else.

I know of at least one Aussie who may have to return home because of this, he gets a pension, and it's not worth much now.

I'm not quite sure I get what you mean Vlad? If he's getting the pension, then shouldn't he return anyway to fulfill residency requirements to get the pension? And if that were not the case, then returning is not much different - price of a beer in Oz is around $6 a pint happy hour - so still would be much cheaper to live there than in Oz one would think!

A private pension won't have any residency requirements. The UK pension has no residency requirement at all but it depends on where you retire to as to whether it receives an inflationary increase each year or not. Strangely, if you retire to Australia it won't get that boost.

Vlad now knows two, except I call Cambodia home.

Private pension and Government pension [ OAP ] are entirely different . OAP is '' portable '' [ you can get it paid overseas ] but usually at a lower rate with no add-ons.

Good, let them suffer!

Less money will mean less sponsorship by retard scumboys for sponsoring tiger/elephant/rhino poaching.

I hope it hurts real bad.
