A tragic absence of billionaires in Cambodia

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. A tragic absence of billionaires in Cambodia

Post by mammothboy2 »

Despite the best efforts of the capitalist / comprador class, nobody resident in Cambodia has made the Forbes list.

Malaysia, China and Indonesia are all there, as is India.

Any guesses for what year the first Cambodian will be in Forbes?

I'd be very surprised if certain Cambodians didn't have over $1 billion squirreled away in various shelters.

I think they are talking about white or already laundered money. Probably be a while before they have that much clean cash around.

There are a few billionaires here. It's just that they are very shy due to local cultural traditions. They don't like to live ostentatiously and just lead by example etc.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
