I know there are many teachers among us. A bar owner or two. Probably some NGOers as well. But it's apparent that others have found a variety of ways to make a living in Cambodia. Several internet entrepreneurs, for example.

How do you pay the bills?

Happy to share - we're self funded. When we're settled and fluent in Khmer, I'll supplement that with academic management or lecturing.

Online publishing.

Most of my income comes from Google Adsense and is somewhat passive.

One advantage is I can go anywhere, when I get tired of Cambodia I go live in another country for a few months... lately I've been thinking about going to Malaysia for 3 months.

A massive disadvantage is it's quite solitary work.

Okay. I don't earn my money in Cambodia. I do contract engineering work for the international division of a large US construction company. Just no projects in places I want to live so far. I do get quite a bit of time off on a rotating work schedule, which I almost always spend in this part of the world. If I was smart enough to figure out how to make some money in SE Asia, I would do so. I have no interest in teaching. I'm looking for some new ideas.

Why not do contract engineering for a local firm?

To play along:
I do, as has been stated before elsewhere, contract software and web development work. Generally via telecommute, but occasionally for local clients as well. I have also developed an e-commerce solution which, with a few more bugs worked out, will be ready for market locally at a quite low price and allowing both credit card payments and Wing payments as checkout options. For additional fees it can also (potentially) be integrated into an existing point of sale system... the fee and even possibility will of course depend on the point of sale software being used by the customer, but I'm pretty good at making things that were never designed to play with others do it anyway.
